WA police have stepped up their fight for more pay - rallying at parliament holding graphic signs to highlight violence against officers. They want an extra 1.5% pay each year, but the Premier insists taxpayers can't afford it.
Vision of the pursuit shows Danny Jay Brooks weaving through traffic, forcing motorists to swerve out of the way or hit their brakes to avoid a crash. Brooks repeatedly goes off-road and travels on the wrong side of streets before being clipped at the rear and losing control. Police in several unmarked cars then quickly swarm around and ram into the vehicle to block Brooks from getting away. The 38-year-old fled Fremantle Police Station on Wednesday afternoon, accompanied by 29-year-old Katelinn Tracy McKrill, who was also in custody and was caught nearby a short time later. Brooks had been arrested that morning and charged with multiple offences. After escaping, Brooks was seen allegedly car-jacking a vehicle at Fremantle train station. The car was later found crashed further sou...

https://www.expedia.com/Perth.d180013.Destination-Travel-Guides A modern city, Perth is the gem of Australia’s west coast and the capital of Western Australia. This friendly metropolis boasts pristine beaches, clear water, and plenty of coastline – not to mention an abundance of nature and mineral resources. Start your day of Perth sightseeing with a walk through Kings Park, which is larger than New York’s Central Park and home to the Western Australia Botanic Garden. More than 3,000 species of Western Australia’s plant life, including vibrant flowers, are on display here. Most of the park consists of bushland, which means lots of wildlife and quite a few walking trails. After a morning of reflection in the park, head over to the Swan Bell Tower to enjoy a spectacular view of the city. ...

Perth is a must visit if you're thinking of a trip over to Western Australia, the beautiful coastline and Perth attractions make it the ideal place to take family, friends or your partner. The city is easy to navigate, with everything fairly close, Hay and Murray Street is home to big name shops, cinemas and the GPO. Kings Park and Botanic Gardens are a beautiful place for a stroll and offers some great views of the city. The Botanic Gardens features over 3,000 species and the Rio Tinto Naturescape is great for the kids. The coastline is one of Perth's draws, and if the heat is getting to you head for a dip at the golden sands on Cottesloe Beach, City Beach or Scarborough. Fremantle is located at the mouth of the Swan River, boasting historical buildings, the Roundhouse and the Maritime Mu...

The Margaret River region runs down the Western Australian coastline for over 80 miles, and stretches inland for a further 20. Busselton marks the beginning of one of Australia’s most scenic drives, Caves Road, which gets its name from the incredible limestone caves which honeycomb the region. Caves Road winds inland, through picturesque villages and historic timber towns, before arriving at the region’s main settlement, Margaret River. Surrounded by coasts on three sides, and enjoying virtually rain-free summers, as a wine-growing region, Margaret River has been compared to France’s famous Bordeaux region. Cruise from cellar door to cellar door, sampling some of the most exciting Chardonnays, Shirazs and Cabernet Sauvignons on the planet. At Margaret River’s northern end is Cape Natur...

The best things in life are (almost!) free, and that is certainly the case if you head to Perth in Western Australia. As this video shows, you don't need a bulging wallet to enjoy what the city has to offer, for example: City Walking Tours and Trails Walking tours of the city and the City Walks and Trails maps are the best way to explore the Perth CBD and surrounding areas. i-City volunteers guide free walking tours each week day, departing from the i-City Information Kiosk in Murray Street Mall near Forrest Place. The tours take up to 2 hours, and you can join in or leave anywhere along the way. You can also do the walking tours yourself by picking up the walking tour map and comprehensive guide from the i-City kiosk. The walks and trails intercept the city's free CAT bus servic...

EPISODE 1 - Shown on ITV1 on 2nd Sept 2015 at 9:00PM In the first programme officers are seen dealing with a dangerous prowler preying on lone women, a raid on a drugs den and the aftermath of a bloody glassing after a Friday night fracas. At the daily CID briefing Detective Sergeant Julie Greenwood briefs her team on an incident where a woman alone at home at night found a man standing in her front room. When the woman challenged him, he fled from the property. Officers believe the prowler is linked to an incident the previous week when a young woman awoke to find a man sexually touching her in bed. A potential suspect is raised who fits the description given at both incidents. He’s a rapist recently released from prison, and is living close to one of the victims. The officers need t...

Natural resources are powering Australia's economy to record highs, but is there a dark side to the mining boom? Australia is blessed with rugged beauty and a wealth of natural resources - including coal, iron, natural gas and gold. Such minerals are powering Australia's economy to record highs. And as demand from China for more resources grows, new mines continue to open across the country. But critics say there is a dark side to this success story. Mining regions attract transient workers keen to make a quick buck, creating social and environmental problems and a rising crime rate. Mines are also draining Australia's pool of skilled labour from other industries and driving up wages. 101 East asks: What is the cost of Australia's mining boom? Here Australian 101 East fixer Sian Gard...
